Why did you decide to join an organization?
Coming to college can be a life-changing experience and joining an organization is the best way to get everything out of it. There’s an organization for every interest– sports, Greek, leadership, even French film. The more involved you are, the more people you can meet.
What’s the best place to start?
I was involved in i.d.e.a.l. my freshman year, and it was great. They interview and accept 40 freshmen each year. I got to meet the UCA president and have dinner with him and the Board of Trustees. And when you mention i.d.e.a.l, others will invite you to join their groups as well.
What’s your advice for making the most of it?
If you can, find a leadership position in your organization, it’s an amazing experience that will challenge you. Plus, it looks great on your resume!
What does being involved mean to you?
I like to be busy, so I joined several groups. It’s been the best way to make friends and meet new people.
What would you tell a potential freshman about UCA?
It’s a great decision; there are so many great programs of study and great professors. The campus is big enough to give you that ‘college feel,’ but small enough so you can make friends and get around. My biggest piece of advice is to live on campus; you can make it your own experience.
What opportunities do you have because of your involvement?
The more involved you are, the easier it is to join more groups. It even helped me get a job on campus. I’ve met many ‘higher-ups’ in the university and that’s made a huge difference in my experience here. I can only imagine what it can do once I graduate.
